FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

McLain WardWhat are the roles of the USET Foundation
and the United States Equestrian Federation?

The United States Equestrian Team Foundation was created as a new not-for-profit organization, under IRS Section 501(c)(3), in December 2003 after the signing of an historic agreement between the former USET, Inc. and USAE (formerly AHSA). This agreement also created a new National Governing Body (NGB) for equestrian sport in America - the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF).

The Federation, based in Kentucky, assumed responsibility for all national and international aspects of equestrian sport, including the training and competition related activities that were previously the responsibility of the USET. With its headquarters still located in Gladstone, New Jersey, the Foundation's primary mission is now to raise funds and make grants in support of our nation's High Performance athletes and horses.

What funding does High Performance receive from other sources?

The Federation raises approximately 35% of its High Performance annual budget through High Performance membership dues, corporate sponsors and other licensing agreements. In addition to these funds, the United StatesOlympic Committee (USOC) provides approximately 20% ofthe annual High Performance budget. The USETFoundation grants account for the greatest proportion of the budget contributing 45% - 50%.

EventingMy financial investment in the sport is already considerable. Why should I also give money to the USET Foundation?

Tax-deductible contributions to the USET Foundation further your personal investment in equestrian sport by supporting the High Performance programs and our teams, enabling them to succeed against the world's top equestrian powers. The funding required for these endeavors is significant. It is only through the support of those committed to reaching the highest levels in US equestrian sport that we can send our athletes and horses into international competition and bring home medals.

Why are you looking for four-year pledges?

The Campaign to Achieve Competitive Excellence, with a goal of $20 million, seeks to fund the High Performance strategic plan through the World Equestrian Games in 2010. This strategic plan focuses on objectives and action plans required to help our individual athletes and international teams reach their highest potential. Multi-year commitments allow the Foundation, in partnership with the USEF, to appropriately forecast how the High Performance programs will be funded. Such pledges also allow the USET Foundation to direct its resources, accurately plan budgets, as well as identify and cultivate potential new donors.

Robert DoverCan I restrict my gift to a specific discipline?

Yes. Donors may direct their contributions, in whole or in part, to fund any of the seven High Performance disciplines.

How will the money raised be allocated?

Contributions to the Campaign will be applied 90% towards funding High Performance programs and 10% to be divided equally between the USET Foundation Endowment and a capital improvement fund for the maintenance and preservation of the historic Gladstone headquarters facility.

How will I be assured that my contribution will be allocated appropriately?

The Federation is required to provide the Foundation with a periodic accounting indicating the application of all Foundation grants. All donors will receive regular reports on the status of the Campaign, total funds raised, grant payments made and the level of support allocated to their preferred discipline. Updates about our teams' plans and achievements will also be included.
